NetworkIP (www.networkip.net) has created a solution enabling service providers to offer integrated stored value products utilizing convergent access technologies. This industry leading solution is e.Application and Access Exchange.

NetworkIP’s distributors can now offer a product that can combine any combination of e.Prepaid Cards, e.Conferencing, e.Prepaid Internet, e.Prepaid Long Distance, e.Exchange (carrier resale services) and direct transactions(POS, microtransactions, etc.) all on one PIN. Multiple products on the same PIN mean greater utilization and profit per user, improved retention and larger potential revenue per card sold.

The e.Application and Access Exchange is fully integrated with the same Web-based service interfaces as NetworkIP’s superior individual stored value services. The distributor controls all service attributes including rating, service charges, fees, activations, product expirations and product denominations.

“The ultimate bundled product is a stored value account, charged up with cash, POS or credit card and use any one of multiple services,” said Pete Pattullo, President and CEO of NetworkIP. “It is a calling card, Internet access, conferencing, and microtransactions over the Web. The e.Application and Access Exchange will allow them to deliver a virtually unlimited number of value-added applications.”

First NetworkIP (www.networkip.net) brought its Distributors the ability to offer exceptional products like e.Prepaid Internet, e.Prepaid Calling Cards, e.Prepaid Long Distance, e.Conferencing, e.Cable (high-speed Internet access via cable modem), e.Exchange, Unified Messaging, and Stored Value Cards all on the same PIN. Now NetworkIP, an industry leading e.Application and Access Exchange of converged voice and data services, today announced a strategic business partnership with Transaction Software Inc. (TranSoft), an industry leader in the development and deployment Point of Sale Activation services. The two companies will provide a new Point of Sale Activation (POSA) solution for NetworkIP Distributors.

TranSoft’s service allows NetworkIP-based cards to be activated through TranSoft-compliant Point of Sale devices. The TranSoft technology can be deployed at virtually and retail outlet nationwide. Using the versatile TranSoft System, a retailer can activate a card on a real-time basis utilizing the magnetic-stripe card reader. The system can be accessed from any location outfitted with such a device. This program allows a retailer to avoid keeping activated cards in their store, yet can be activated in a matter of moments when a sale is made.

“NetworkIP has been very selective in choosing application partners for our Customer solutions. TranSoft is a Point of Sale provider with a highly reliable, fast and cost effective network solution. We are very excited about the launch of this important feature,” said Pat Bolinger, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for NetworkIP. “NetworkIP and TranSoft are delivering a superior Point of Sale solution for our Distributors.”

“TranSoft is thrilled to work with NetworkIP to create a convenient and efficient Point of Sale service that delivers an efficient service to a targeted customer base. WEHCO is marketing its cable broadband Internet service under the trademark cablelynxTM.

e.Cable by NetworkIP is a broadband cable modem solution that allows cable operators to provide privately branded, self provisioned high-speed Internet and data services to their subscribers with minimal back office investment.

“We are very excited to introduce cablelynxTM high-speed Internet service,” said Larry Risner, WEHCO Video’s Director of Marketing. “We believe that bundling products is the way to generate new revenue in new markets. e.Cable allows us to quickly add Internet services for our cable customers without taking a huge hit in startup costs. The NetworkIP platform is easy to use and the self-provisioning software significantly reduces truck rolls. We can private brand our own product, manage all back office aspects of the service offering and maintain the relationship with our customers.”

e.Cable provides the subscriber quick and easy self-installation and self-provisioning of high-speed Internet service and the ability to manage their own service accounts online. NetworkIP’s real-time Web-based e.Services Network (e.SN) provides the cable operator with a paperless, prepaid environment including such back office requirements as provisioning, billing, rating, customer care, reporting, and bandwidth access levels. Other service offerings available for cable operators using NetworkIP’s e.Cable e.SN solution include e-mail account, personalized Web pages, and varying service levels for Internet access.

“While other broadband access providers have focused on content and manually provisioning modems, NetworkIP focused on doing it right!” said Pete Pattullo, President & CEO of NetworkIP. “We have overcome the perception that self-provisioning and bandwidth control is unattainable in the current technology environment. In spite of the nay-sayers, NetworkIP has achieved its goal of providing a frictionless self-service solution that embraces marketing dynamics and private branding.”

The remaining WEHCO system cities of Camden, Hope & Prescott, AR; Tahlequeh, OK; and Kilgore, TX, with 19,000 customers in 28,500 households passed, are projected to be deployed by the end of March 2001.

NetworkIP, an industry leading e.Communications service provider of converged voice and Internet platform services, today announced the launch of e.Cable, a broadband cable modem solution that allows cable operators to provide self-provisioned, high-speed Internet and data services to their subscribers. The cable operator can now market and offer privately branded high-speed Internet service, via a DOCSIS-compliant infrastructure, with absolutely no back office investment.

e.Cable provides the subscriber quick and easy self-installation of high-speed Internet service and the ability to manage their own service accounts online. NetworkIP’s real-time Web-based e.Services Network (e.SN) control system provides the cable operator with a paperless, prepaid environment including back office requirements such as provisioning, billing, technical support, reporting, and service control. Other services that cable providers will be able to offer through the use of e.Cable’s e.SN include email accounts, Web Hosting accounts, and varying service levels for Internet access.

“Our e.Cable product allows us to leverage our successful B2B business model to enable cable providers to offer a private branded, value-added service to their subscribers today while minimizing the risk and capital investment required. It’s a win-win situation for all,” said Pete Pattullo, President and CEO of NetworkIP.

NetworkIP’s broadband offering is built on the Simplified OpenCable solution, which allows the cable operator to deliver self-provisioning to subscribers without separate software installation. The solution reduces costs for the cable provider by virtually eliminating truck rolls and drastically reduces the man-hours required for customer service. NetworkIP has used Simplified’s infrastructure management software since 1997 to provide a variety of voice and data services for telecommunications customers and Internet service providers.

“NetworkIP was one of Simplified’s first customers and it was a natural progression to them to take advantage of our new cable broadband solution,” said James Cashiola, President and CEO of Simplified. “By implementing the Simplified OpenCable solution, NetworkIP and WEHCO Video are leading the way in providing a true open environment for voice and data services.”

It was also announced today that WEHCO Video, the 36th largest MSO, has begun using e.Cable as its cable broadband solution. By teaming up with NetworkIP, WEHCO Video will provide broadband Internet access to its cable customers in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Mississippi through its cable companies located in 11 service areas throughout those states. WEHCO will market its cable broadband Internet services under the trademark ‘cablelynxTM.’ The initial deployment of cablelynxTM is taking place in Longview, Texas, with an approximate subscriber base of 25,000.

“e.Cable by NetworkIP allows us to quickly add Internet services for our cable customers without taking a huge hit in startup costs,” said Larry Risner, WEHCO Video’s Director of Marketing. “The value realized by our customers is not only in the additional services but also in the fact that they can establish and manage their own Internet accounts online. With this new product offering, WEHCO will generate new revenue in a new markets.”

“We are very excited to be introducing the cablelynxTM services,” said Robert E. Durham, Regional Vice President and General Manager of Longview Cable Television Co. “The self-provisioning and management software that has been developed by NetworkIP and Simplified is very easy to use and we believe it will help us increase market share as we roll out our high-speed Internet access product.”

NetworkIP will maintain the network infrastructure and customer data, while WEHCO provides ISP services and cable access. The underlying Simplified platform will manage and clear every transaction administered by each company involved. One advantage to this business model is that WEHCO has real-time access to customer service data through NetworkIP’s platform and maintains the customer relationship.

Network.IP (Booth 405), formerly Network Enhanced Telecom, Longview, Texas, a service bureau for prepaid calling card services, turned on a second Nortel Networks (Booth 1104) DMS-250 switch in Los Angeles in March and announced today that it plans to install another DMS-250 in Mexico City later this year.

Network.IP’s architecture is unique in that both its current DMS-250 switches are controlled by a single service control platform that does all billing and back-office functions. The company hopes to control the third switch in Mexico from the same platform.

Communications between the elements of the platform are all web-based, as are the interfaces for Network.IP operators and the company’s customers.

Pete Pattullo, president and CEO of Network.IP, says the year-old company now is switching about 120 million minutes of pre-paid traffic a month, and, with the Los Angeles switch, has a capacity of 300 million minutes a month.

Pattullo says the economies of scale achievable with the DMS-250 have enabled the company to have a significant price advantage in the prepaid market. “What we are trying to do is take the reliability of 1+ networks and bring that to prepaid, with the economies of scale as well,” he says.

“No one can compete in the long distance market today with a bunch of PBXs (private branch exchanges). today in prepaid, you do not want to try to compete with a bunch of 2000-port switches, which to us is no different from a PBX. You have to have heavy metal–not necessarily as big as Nortel–but the ability to process the millions of calls per day that the volume in the industry justifies.”

Network.IP wholesales telephone services and sells to distributors that actually market and sell the cards. The company’s back-office system delivers real-time customer service information about each user account. Retailers can access most records via the Internet and can customize features of their services, such as developing their own formats for their invoices.

Nortel Networks* [NYSE: NT/TSE: NTL] announced today that Network Enhanced Telecom (NET), LLP, a growing provider of commercial and residential prepaid services, has selected Nortel Networks’ DMS-Programmable Services Node* (DMS-PSN) to expand the company’s prepaid services platform. Representing Nortel Networks’ largest capacity DMS-PSN agreement to date, NET’s new installation will significantly enhance the company’s network capacity and service portfolio, providing over 20,000 ports.

Nortel Networks’ DMS-PSN system is scheduled for installation in Los Angeles, California in January 1999 and will augment NET’s existing DMS-250* PSN located in Longview, Texas. Leveraging their Los Angeles network site, NET plans accelerated deployment of prepaid services throughout California, as well as developing Pacific Rim markets. Future potential markets also include Mexico, Central, and South America.

“Nortel Networks’ DMS-250 PSN is designed to incorporate the programmable switching functionality, capacity, and reliability required by service providers to deliver mass market international and domestic prepaid services efficiently,” said Vickie Yohe, president, Carrier Networks, Nortel Networks. “With this significant deployment, NET has secured the service foundation that can help them seize market share in the burgeoning global prepaid services market and establish a long-term competitive advantage.”

“The economies of scale provided by Nortel Networks’ DMS-250 with DMS-PSN, combined with SS7 connectivity, and Simplified Telesys’ Web-based platform for administrative functions, sharply differentiate NET’s service offerings in the marketplace,” said Pete Pattullo, president and CEO of NET. “The capacity for future growth, the reduction in post-dial delays, and a proven reliability track record make the DMS-PSN-based network unmatched in the prepaid services industry today.”

As a service bureau, NET provides advanced network services to customers whose expertise is distribution of various prepaid services and plans. Within these growing domestic and international markets, NET’s primary service offering via the DMS-PSN is the prepaid calling card application. Network Enhanced Telecom utilizes Simplified Telesys’ card services platform to drive the DMS-PSN, providing the only fourth generation (i.e. client/server in a network topology), off-board telephony platform with extensive capacity for prepaid services. Simplified Telesys’ platform was designed to handle the largest growth capacity in the market, including base system configurations that manage traffic at over 200 million minutes per month and meet the challenges of platform stability and real-time data transfers. The Simplified platform also provides the Web-based, Java-driven interface that allows NET real-time access to customer service, billing, and administrative functions.

Residing on the DMS-250 SuperNode* Long Distance switch, DMS-PSN software provides a comprehensive array of features that enable carriers to shift control of call processing to an external service control platform. The stand-alone DMS-PSN is available for carriers offering both enhanced and basic services who also desire the upside growth potential of a large-scale programmable switch. The DMS-PSN is Year 2000 Ready and supports connectivity up to 100,000 ports. The functionality provided by the DMS-PSN adds value to carrier operations by facilitating service differentiation, trialability, and speed-to-market.

Network Enhanced Telecom (NET), LLP is a private, Texas-based telecommunications company focused on providing prepaid services as a service bureau. NET commercially launched its prepaid product with Simplified Telesys’ Web-based services solutions in December 1997 and is currently operating at a US$45+ million annual revenue run rate.

Simplified Telesys, based in Austin, Texas, develops advanced telephony solutions for enhanced service providers. Organized in 1996, the company’s customer based included 16 installed systems in the United States and Mexico.

Nortel Networks works with customers worldwide to design, build, and deliver telephony and IP-optimized networks. Customers include public and private enterprises and institutions; Internet service providers; local, long-distance, cellular and PCS communications companies, cable television carriers, and utilities.

Nortel Networks’ common shares are listed on the New York, Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, and London stock exchanges. Nortel Networks had 1997 revenues of US$15.5 billion and Bay Networks, a wholly owned subsidiary of Nortel Networks, had revenues of US$2.4 billion during its most recent fiscal year. The combined company’s workforce totals approximately 80,000 employees worldwide.
